IT'S NOT LOGIC
Almost every thought you take into your mind, everything you think about, every word you utter or action you take is filtered. Your mind possesses several filters that condition your thoughts to human standards and the standards of your society.
If we were sitting at a meeting and I moved your stuff from where it was over one seat and put my stuff in your place and sat in your seat, you would be upset. Even though the place I moved you to is every bit a good as the place I took from you, you'd be mad at me. This is because we are instinctively territorially. It's not logic it's the way we think.
We instinctively herd together. Organize in only one pattern that consisting of a leader, a group of close supporters who enforce the leaderships rule and a group of followers that make up the majority of the tribe and produce the material and labor that sustains the tribe. Is this the only way to organize humans, or the best way? We will never know because we are preprogrammed to organize only in this one way. It's not logic it's the way we are programmed to organize.
During a quarrel, a wife said to her husband, "You know, I was a fool when I married you." The husband replied, "Yes, dear, but I was in love and didn't notice."
When emotion becomes involved in the thought process we act irrationally even when we consciously know better. Love, hate, fear, anger, compassion, etc., they are emotions that can totally control your thought process. We are captives of these emotions, but in fact we cherish this irrational behavior that filters all thought that it touches. It's not logic it's the way we twist our thoughts.
The biggest filter of them all is conditioning of the mind. We call it learning. If I ask you what 3 times 4 is you will instantly say 12. You will respond with 12 because you learned you multiplication tables a long time ago. You have conditioned that response into your mind. That is what all learning is: conditioning the mind to respond in a certain way or a predetermined way. It would be impossible to keep up or even survive if you consciously thought out every action that you took before you took it. You cannot consciously plan every step you take or motion you make.
Most of the actions humans take are a result of automatic conditioned response. A conditioned response, unlike instincts and emotions, is a response learned after birth.
Learning to speak and understand what is said to you is a good example. When you learn words and phrases that you speak they are automatically used by a subconscious process that already exist within your mind. When you understand what is said to you it automatically occurs without you consciously assembling the sounds. Your mind through learning has assembled template of modulate sound that it associates with something you understand. When you hear sounds, your mind compares those sounds with the templates stored in your mind. If they fit, you understand what the other person said. When you answer back you mind takes the words you want to use, automatically strings them together in templates you have stored, then processes the sound necessary to present that to your listener. The listener will understand if they have that same templates stored in their mind. It's not logic it's the way we are required to think in order to keep up a conversation.
In addition, how you walk, talk, and use your hands, how close you stand to another person, where you let your eyes fall or where put you hand when you touch another person, this all tells who you are and where you are from. Most of the actions in our relationships with others are ritualized and done automatically without conscious effort. They are what I call housekeeping decisions that are processed by our automatic conditioned response system. This stamps us with the identity of our culture and those that teach us. It's not logic it's the way we must act to fit into our society.
Humans not only cannot keep up in a conversation without bypassing conscious assembly of the sounds, humans have difficulty dealing with the minute to minute demand for decision making they must do consciously. We must consciously decide whether to stand or sit. Sit forward or back in the chair. What to eat. What to eat first, where. Pass the car in front. Turn here or at the next block. No human could survive if they didn't have automatic condition response bypassing our logical conscious thought patterns and acting without our conscious help. It's not logic it's an essential part of survival.
Whether it is instinct, emotions or learned behavior, our minds are conditioned to respond without re-considering our thoughts. Most of it is useful whether right or wrong and we need it to survive. So we learn to use many things that are right, along with many things that are really stupid. They all help us function within our social group. This behavior is ritualized into common practices that identifies us with a certain group of people. (Ethnic group, financial group, political groups, religious group, etc.)
These so necessary systems are the reason why humans, in spite of all the knowledge we have acquired, share so many characteristics with our ancestors that lived in caves. We are captives of our instincts, emotions and conditioning. The proof of this is that we repeat human mistakes over and over again. (war, crime, ecology damage, prejudice, greed, hate, etc.)
Are we in control of our destiny or are we just floating in the stream of evolution?
